Khmer Hinduism


     Hinduism was the first religion influencing Cambodia. It flourished alongside Buddhism from the 1st century until the 14th century, during Funan and pre-Angkorian period. The famous ancient capital of the legend Khmer Empire - Angkor Wat is the largest Hindu temple in the world. It had worshipped Vishnu, the supreme God in the tradition of Hinduism. However, in the Angkor Era, Hinduism was superseded by Buddhism and it has become a Buddhist temple.
